DesignLSM, were approached by Michelin-starred chefs Chris and Jeff Galvin to deliver the brand design for their first restaurant venture in the UAE. Having worked with the highly acclaimed brothers since 2005, DesignLSM were delighted to assist them with the launch of this exciting concept.
The concept combines an artisan patisserie counter, juice bar and modern tea parlour within a light and open all-day brassiere located in Dubai’s newest living destination – City Walk 2.
DesignLSM’s brief was to design a strong identity that would communicate and enhance Galvin’s authentic French character within the UAE market.
The original Galvin Demoiselle is located on the ground floor of Harrods department store, London. We adapted the colour palette from the original to a bolder green, which was then carried through into the botanical inspired interior.
The typeface, Gill Sans, takes inspiration from Edward Johnston’s London underground alphabet. The typeface gives a nice contrast to the logo and the hand drawn illustrations whilst providing a subtle nod to the original Demoiselle restaurant roots in London.
Several unique illustrations, created by painter and naturalist John Orbidon were applied to ceiling tiles through the main restaurant, creating an impressive visual impact for Demoiselle’s guests. Elements from the illustrations were extracted, redrawn and applied in print across a variety of collateral including menus, stationery, gift boxes and take away packaging.
