British sweet manufacturer Swizzels has given its iconic Love Hearts sweets a digital makeover with the launch of an emoji-themed range.
As emojis become a globally-recognised way of communicating, 11 of the nation’s favourite emojis now feature alongside Love Hearts’ traditional messages, making Love Hearts history.
To support the launch, Swizzels has created an on-pack and digital #ShareTheLove campaign, encouraging consumers to engage with the limited-edition sweets, share the love in more unique ways, and post on social media.
Consumers are also encouraged to create animated, personalised Love Hearts messages to share digitally with friends and loved ones on the Swizzels website.
Swizzels carried out research into the most commonly used emojis to ensure the most popular expressions were put into production and printed onto Love Hearts, which are famous for featuring over 150 romantic messages.
The brand has been making Love Hearts since 1954 and now produces 1.75 billion Love Hearts every year.
Claire Lee, Brand Manager at Swizzels said:
“The way in which we communicate has changed over recent years and we felt that now was the perfect time for us to introduce more modern ways for people to share the love.
‘‘Emojis are one of the newest and most popular ways to communicate, so adding them to our more traditional messages allows Love Hearts to appeal to both the younger and older generations.
‘‘We wanted to make sure our campaign encouraged people to engage with the Love Hearts brand and share the love in more unique ways – not just in a romantic way, but with family and friends too.’’
Swizzels is the UK’s largest family-owned independent sugar confectionery business and one of the few confectionery companies to still manufacture sweets in the UK. The company makes a range of well-known products including Love Hearts, Squashies, Refreshers, Drumstick Lollies, Rainbow Drops, Double Lollies and Fruity Pops.
