Thomson’s Coffee Roasters of Glasgow, a 176-year-old family business, has announced it will be opening a state of the art open plan roastery, café, bakery and training space in Glasgow’s famous Argyle Street Arches; promising a unique and immersive coffee experience. The new café will be open from end of February.
The Argyle Street Arches venue is being developed into a new, vibrant, multifaceted space. It will retain its community ethos and be home to a number of small, local producers, including a weekly street food market called PLATFORM and events.
Thomson’s Coffee Roastery will occupy the first of the seven iconic adjoining archways where the former cafe used to be and the main entrance to the Arches. The open plan roastery, café, bakery and training centre will provide customers with a unique opportunity to experience the roasting process alongside a 58 seater café and in-house bakery offering pizzas, breads and pastries all freshly baked on site.
The centre piece of the open-plan roastery will be the state of the art Loring Kestrel S35 Smart Roaster, the only coffee roaster of its kind and size in Scotland. This allows Thomson’s to offer customer’s a unique insight into the roasting of their coffee.
Russell Jenkins, managing director of Thomson’s Coffee Roasters said: “As Thomson’s embarks on its 176th year, opening our first open plan coffee roastery, café, bakery and training centre in Glasgow is a great milestone for the business. A Glasgow business through and through, the roastery will see us return to our roots in the city centre and we are proud to be the first business to take a space in The Argyle Street Arches.”
The Roastery will also serve as a training centre for Thomson’s trade and public customers. The space will enable them to offer tailored training for our café and restaurant customers as well as running SCA certified barista and brewing classes for coffee professionals and enthusiasts alike.
Thomson’s will be open for the PLATFORM street food markets and thereafter will open to the public from Monday 26th February, 2018.
