Audu hybrid cheese range expands into Finland; further product launches confirmed for 2025

When Finnish shoppers walk into their local Kesko supermarket this week and head for the cheese aisle, they’ll be greeted with two new offerings: Audu hybrid cheddar and Audu hybrid mozzarella.

Already on the market in Denmark since 2023 and in Sweden since 2024, the Audu hybrid cheese range combines traditional dairy based cheese with plant ingredients. The result is great taste, nutrition and functionality with 40% lower CO2 emissions.

“Our products are available in more than 1000 supermarkets in Denmark. And our ambition is to make them available to as many cheese lovers as possible. After we introduced our range into Sweden last year, Finland is a natural next step,” says Jakob Skovgaard, founder & CEO of Audu by PlanetDairy.

The Audu hybrid cheese range offers something new to the category, appealing to a broader audience with its unique blend of plant and dairy ingredients. The range bridges the gap between traditional cheese and plant-based alternatives, enabling retailers to meet the needs of a diverse customer base.

Audu by PlanetDairy was founded in 2022 by three senior ex-Arla executives. “We are dairy lovers. But we are also planet lovers. And the dairy industry is one of the leading contributors of greenhouse gases. We wondered, ‘How could we create great dairy products without the greenhouse gas emissions?'”, recalls Jakob. “It seems impossible, but new technology in the form of precision fermentation can provide some solutions. However, there are several regulatory hurdles to overcome and we are impatient to do something now. Hence our hybrid range is the first big step.”

Audu hybrid cheddar and Audu hybrid mozzarella have been available in nearly all major supermarkets in Denmark for nearly two years.

“We’ve been working hard on expanding our range and I can confirm that we will launch two new products in spring this year,” smiles Jakob.
