Dutch Juice Manufacturer opts for SIGNATURE PACK for Appelsientje Biologisch range

RIEDEL FIRST IN THE NETHERLANDS TO OFFER ASI-CERTIFIED CARTON PACK

Premium Dutch fruit drinks manufacturer Riedel has once again opted for SIGNATURE PACK Full Barrier from SIG, this time for its Appelsientje Biologisch range of 100% pure and unsweetened fruit juices. The aseptic carton pack is made with polymers linked to plant-based renewable materials and continues to help Riedel’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Riedel is also SIG’s first Dutch customer to choose a carton pack with ASI-certified aluminium. SIG was the first in the industry to enable its customers to demonstrate their commitment to responsible aluminium sourcing using the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certification. SIGNATURE PACK Full Barrier provides exceptional protection for products which are sensitive to light and oxygen, such as orange juice.

For its Appelsientje Biologisch range, available in five varieties, Riedel has chosen combiblocPremium 750ml with SIGNATURE PACK material, which is mainly composed of FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council, licence code FSCC020428) certified paperboard made from wood, which is a renewable resource. The polymers used to laminate the paperboard have a clear link to 100% plant-based material via a mass balance system. This means that for the polymers used in the SIGNATURE PACK, an equivalent amount of bio-based feedstock went into the manufacturing of the polymers. To ensure the integrity of this process, the mass balancing is certified through internationally recognised third-party according to ISCC PLUS standard.

The carbon footprint of SIGNATURE PACK Full Barrier is between 34% up to 60% lower (depending on format and country) than a standard SIG carton pack of the respective format, based on a life cycle assessment (CB-100733 of 01.03.2019) carried out by independent IFEU Institute in accordance with the relevant ISO standards (ISO 14040 and ISO 14044).

SIG is committed to providing the perfect packaging solution for its customers, which includes a close cooperation with Riedel spanning more than two decades. SIG and Riedel have worked together to innovate and develop the most convenient yet sustainable packaging, to keep up-to-date with the latest trends and to meet changing consumer needs.

Bas Boswinkel, Managing Director at Riedel: “At Riedel we are committed to using responsibly-grown fruit and promoting sustainable fruit cultivation, production, filling and distribution. Using SIGNATURE PACK for our popular Appelsientje range, and for the first time in the Netherlands with ASI-Certification, enables us to offer the most sustainable yet premium quality packaging for our loyal consumers.”

Boswinkel continues: “SIGNATURE PACK has already been a resounding success for our CoolBest range and we are expecting a similar enthusiastic response from consumers for Appelsientje in this format.”.

First for SIGNATURE PACK in The Netherlands

Riedel was the first juice manufacturer in the Netherlands to opt for SIGNATURE PACK from SIG when it relaunched its CoolBest Juice range earlier this year. Now with ASI-certified aluminium, Riedel achieves another first for the country, relaunching one of its most famous juice brands in the most sustainable packaging available. Both SIG and Riedel both have clear and ambitious environmental targets and working together they will continue to strive to bring the most sustainable products and packaging to market.

Martin Herrenbrueck, President & General Manager Europe at SIG, commented: “Riedel has been the pioneer in bringing our SIGNATURE PACK to the European juice market, firstly with CoolBest and now with Appelsientje. Both our companies are in perfect synergy as we continue our exciting partnership to bring the most sustainable products and packaging to the Benelux market.

SIGNATURE PACK Full Barrier is one of the latest innovations supporting SIG’s Way Beyond Good ambitions to offer customers the most sustainable food packaging solutions and contribute more to society and the environment than it takes out.
