Newcastle Brown Ale is seeking to bolster its Twitter followers as part of its latest ‘no bollocks’ marketing drive, by offering the next 50,000 followers $1 each for keeping tabs on the drinks brand.
Devised by Droga5 the chequebook stratagem is a deliberate attempt to remove all pretense of fair play from the cut throat social media numbers game by going all out to secure the maximum number of followers in the quickest amount of time.
As such thousands of greenbacks will be offered as incentives for people to follow it on Twitter, by mailing out a 50,000 crisp cheques for $1 to everyone who signs up. It remains to be seen if this escalation in the social media arms race will be met by other brands desperate to convert cash into followers.
