In Melbourne, there is a visually striking piece of architecture that stands out for its innovative use of material—the Prahran Hotel has a bar that has been built using gigantic concrete tubes.
Usually concealed from view, these concrete water pipes have been used to create the street façade of the bar, giving it a chic, raw industrial look that is made warm and welcoming with the light that spills out of the large circular windows.
On the inside, the concrete tubes have been transformed into cozy, leather-seated booths that are great for small, intimate gatherings.
Of the 17 and a half concrete tubes used in the construction of the bar, a halved tube is installed in the middle of the space, carved into an open-topped seater that is suspended above the ground floor.
