Capital Job – Nirvana’s London Porter Returns

Brewery Also Introduces 30L KeyKeg For Popular Hoppy Pale Ale

Following its recent £750,000.00 fundraise, Nirvana Brewery has brought back one of its most successful limited-edition brews, a London Porter.

Last seen in 2021, the porter is available alongside Nirvana’s six-strong core range via Inn Express, LWC, Pivovar, Nectar and eebria.

In addition, the UK’s first-ever low/no brewery has introduced a 30 litre KeyKeg for its popular Hoppy Pale Ale (0.5% ABV).

The London Porter (also 0.5% ABV) celebrates the brewery’s roots (it’s been based in Leyton since 2016) and a little of the capital’s brewing heritage. In 18th century London, beers were traditionally aged at the pub; breweries would only carry out a primary fermentation before shipping it out to be served straight away, or aged in pub cellars.  In contrast, the London porter was born of pioneering breweries who decided to experiment with ageing their beer in-house, keeping it in traditional porter tuns to ferment and eventually mellow, becoming sweeter than the stouts of the day.

Nirvana’s London Porter is a rich, dark, beer featuring multiple roasted malt varieties and the classic British hop variety, ‘Fuggles’. With notes of caramel, coffee and a touch of chocolate, plus hints of spice and oak, it’s described as warming, complex and indulgent.

Founder Becky Kean said: “We’ve already got the widest variety of low/no beer choices – and these two introductions add yet more depth and variety. The porter was a big seasonal ‘hit’ last time, while the keg gives publicans and bar owners the chance to offer something other than low/no lager on tap. Variety will be key to success in this market, just as much as it is in full-strength beer.”
