Tesco will be tapping into consumer demand for fresh, seasonal British produce by stocking British Freshly Dug New Potatoes which will be in store for just four weeks from early July.
Freshness is key for these tasty spuds which will harvested daily to ensure each pack is as fresh as possible.
Carefully selected for their great buttery taste with just a hint of sweetness, smooth yellow skin and waxy texture, the 750g packs will include Sofia, Annabelle and Regina varieties grown in Suffolk and the Scottish borders.
Consumers will be encouraged to steam or boil their freshly dug potatoes for maximum flavour and in keeping with the season.
Supplied by Greenvale, the UK’s leading potato supplier, these delectable freshly dug new potatoes demonstrate the best of British produce whilst their limited availability means that they’re only on shelf during the height of their season.
The Tesco Category Commercial Manager for Vegetables, Andy Blackett said: “Tesco is committed to offering shoppers the very best in freshness and quality and works closely with growers to ensure that the potatoes we offer are in season and at their very tastiest.”
Greenvale handles 600,000 tonnes of potatoes every year operating from three state of the art packaging facilities strategically located across the UK.
It aspires to deliver high quality potatoes day in day out to its customers who include leading retailer Tesco and key food manufacturers Birds Eye, McCain, Young’s and Bakkavör.
It is one of the few fully integrated potato businesses in the UK, from breeding and growing potatoes through to packaging, distribution and marketing for the retail, wholesale and food service sectors, with a specialist food ingredients division, Swancote Foods.
Greenvale is a significant grower of potatoes in its own right, producing 70,000 tonnes of potatoes through its own growing programme where it employs cutting edge growing techniques. It also boasts the largest and most geographically diverse grower base in the UK.
