Lindahls Protein, the high-protein dairy brand, is calling on the nation’s secret dancers to step into the spotlight with the launch of its ‘Good Movers’ competition, offering Brits the chance to win £10,000 cash simply by sharing their favourite spontaneous dance moves.
This comes following new research of 2,000 UK adults which has uncovered a hidden truth: Brits are a nation of spontaneous dancers, regularly integrating joyful, unplanned movement into their daily routines. Far from being a chore, these bursts of activity are proving to be a powerful, accessible tool for mood and well-being with a staggering 86% of Brits reporting that spontaneous movement significantly or moderately improves their mood and reduces stress. This concept has been endorsed by renowned movement and wellbeing specialist Dr Peter Lovatt.
He commented: “The research findings by Lindahls Protein strongly reinforce the psychological benefits of spontaneous, joyful movement. Short, uninhibited bursts of activity are incredibly effective at releasing endorphins, reducing stress hormones, and boosting overall mood.
This perception is so strong that 81% believe even a few minutes of fun, easy movement can be as beneficial for their overall well-being as a longer, structured workout.
The research also highlights that the humble kitchen is the nation’s favourite impromptu dance floor, with over half (56%) of Brits admitting to having a ‘kitchen boogie’ at least once a week. As well as the kitchen, secret boogiers are finding their groove in unexpected places including:
- Over two-fifths (42%) confess to spontaneously dancing while brushing their teeth or in the shower.
- More than half (53%) get down while cleaning other rooms.
- Nearly one in five (19.8%) find themselves grooving through supermarket aisles.
- Other common ‘dance spots’ include doing laundry (29%), in the car (38%), and even at their desks (16%).
Dr Peter Lovatt added: “As humans, we have a fundamental need to move and express ourselves, so it’s no wonder so many of us resonate with the idea of a ‘kitchen boogie’ or ‘chore-cise’. The competition by Lindahls Protein celebrates the positive impact this movement has on our daily well-being, often far removed from the pressures of traditional exercise.”

Viral fitness guru @aliceliving has also weighed in on the conversation – saying: “Dance has always been something I’ve connected with, having danced since the age of two and previously trained as a professional dancer. My everyday kitchen dances have become a thing—whether it’s 10 minutes in the morning or a longer stint to get through a witching hour, it’s something I now do every day.”
