They say it always tastes better when you make it yourself – but at the same time, there’s nothing like the consistency that comes from a trusted brand.
Heinz is offering to make it so that one ketchup fan does not have to choose between these two apparently irreconcilable priorities, by offering a bespoke bottle of sauce made with tomatoes grown by the winner of its Grow Your Own competition.
The brand is giving away 20,000 packs of tomato seeds to consumers who sign up at its mini site, for the fourth year of the home gardening initiative. After planting the seeds and waiting for nature to take its miraculous course, the amateur gardeners participating in the challenge will be invited to post pictures of their juicy nightshades at the Heinz UK Facebook page.
One overall winner will have their tomatoes collected and shipped to the Heinz Innovation Centre in the Netherlands, where they will be used to make one bottle of ketchup with a personalised label.
55 runners up will get Heinz Tomato Ketchup branded gardening gloves, trowels, watering cans and mini wheel barrows.
