KFC has a serious Christmas message

A public service reminder of which bird is boss

Christmas. The time of festive thanksgiving and family get-togethers, mistletoe, embarrassing relatives and… turkey. Yes turkey. It is the only time of year where everyone has the lesser poultry front of mind. With Christmas Day being the only day of the year the entire nation consciously “agrees” to eat turkey.

However KFC, the chicken aficionados, know that nobody really likes any of the turkey preparation or eating rituals. As with many things in life, the idea of turkey is much easier to swallow than the actual turkey experience itself. The experience that’ll be happening across the country live on December 25th.

To remedy this, KFC is going to help us all cope with the impending doom of the much dreaded turkey. Kate Wall, Head of Advertising and Retail at KFC UK & Ireland commented “Burnt, overdone, chewy, dry… we’ve all got a turkey horror story. And they’re usually enough to keep any family’s designated chef up all Christmas Eve. This year we wanted our Christmas campaign to take an irreverent, cheeky look at the ritual that has become ‘Christmas Turkey’. Wishing everyone good luck with the turkey on 25th December. ‘Cos until then we’ve got you.”

The campaign centres on a series of five 10 second TV ads, with a fun, energetic animation style and hyperbole to dial up our turkey disasters before featuring KFC delights that’ll be your saviour to the Turkey season  – including the  KFC Christmas Burger & Bucket. It’s supported by OOH & social, which tease the turkey nightmares the week before focusing in on the KFC’s heroics.
