Attention all foodies: Halifax is limbering up to host its sixth hugely popular Food and Drink Festival this June.
The town centre will be abuzz with live chef demos, cookery workshops and over 70 stalls – on Saturday June 22 (10am–5pm), and Sunday June 23 (10am–4pm). Admission is free.
Halifax town centre is set to transform into one gigantic celebration of everything that’s delicious – a thrilling outdoor banquet where food, glorious food is the star of the show.
You’ll be able to feast your senses on award-winning local produce such as pork pies, chorizo and ice cream, try out authentically prepared dishes from all corners of the globe, and indulge in artisan coffees, ciders, ales, chocolates and cheeses.
The weekend has been designed to showcase both local and global cuisine at its best and most vibrant. Expect a fascinating display of diverse dishes, cultures, cooking styles and traditions – with passionate artisans and producers rubbing shoulders with everyone from renowned chefs and devoted foodies to the gastronomically curious. All ages, all tastes, all welcome.
Once you’ve explored the 70+ stalls, head for the cookery demonstrations and expand your culinary repertoire. Experts include venison aficionado, Simon Dyson, two-time Yorkshire Pudding Champion, Christopher Blackburn, and renowned local chefs, Lee Marshall and Ben Varley (former contestant on BBC’s Masterchef: The Professionals).
Whether you want to enjoy the party atmosphere, sample as many wonderful dishes as you can, or get inspiration and ideas for your own kitchen adventures, Halifax Food and Drink Festival 2013 promises something for everyone.
2013 will be the festival’s second year as a free town-centre event after moving from the historic Piece Hall. 17,000 food lovers came last year, and even more are expected this year. Get there early. With an empty stomach.
