Honest – a top-selling organic bottled herbal tea in the US – launches in the UK for the first time, taking Coca-Cola GB’s number of brands up to 20 and more than 80 drinks.
There’s a new low-calorie herbal tea on the market, and it’s refreshingly honest. Made in the UK, and certified organic by the Soil Association, Honest lives up to the brand name and will be the first organic drink launched by Coca-Cola in Great Britain.
For its first international launch, Honest will come in three different flavours: Lemon Flavoured Herbal Tea with Honey, Orange and Mango Flavoured Herbal Tea and Pomegranate and Blueberry Flavoured Herbal Tea.
Each drink, available in 500ml recyclable PlantBottle packaging, contains brewed organic herbal tea (hibiscus, lemon balm and lemon myrtle, depending on the variant), organic fruit juice concentrates and is sweetened with organic cane sugar.
“This is one of those pinch-me moments,” said Honest co-founder Seth Goldman.
“When we started brewing tea in my kitchen, we always hoped we could help shift peoples’ diets toward organic, authentic beverage recipes that taste “Just a Tad Sweet.” We can’t wait to share our drinks with folks in the UK and are confident the “Honest” name and brand values will resonate on this side of the Atlantic.”
Speaking of the launch, Coca-Cola GB General Manager Jon Woods said: “Honest has been a great success in the US and we’re delighted to be launching the brand here. We’re launching with three herbal tea infusions, with the long term ambition of growing and expanding the range.”
“We think Honest will appeal to people looking for a lower-calorie and refreshingly unique tasting drink. This is our first organic brand and will complement our existing range perfectly as we continue to increase the choice of drinks we offer.”
An honest story
Honest was founded in 1998 by Seth Goldman and his Yale School of Management professor, Barry Nalebuff.
Seth and Barry were looking to fill a gap in the market with a flavoursome, but not-too-sweet drink, they could enjoy as part of a busy ‘on-the-go’ lifestyle.
They launched Honest from Seth’s kitchen in Bethesda, Maryland, and after 10 years of impressive growth, The Coca-Cola Company invested 40% in Honest, before acquiring the company in 2011.
