Belvoir Fruit Farms recently hosted a cookery demonstration by chef and actress, Lisa Faulkner for 12 key mummy bloggers and their children.
Intended to show that baking together can be fun, provided mum can overcome her horror of the mess, the bloggers and a mixture of boys and girls aged between 7 and 11 followed step by step as Lisa demonstrated how to make her Madeleine Hot Air balloons using lashings of Belvoir’s Elderflower Cordial to sweeten and flavour the cake mixture.
Lisa has developed a range of cakes for Belvoir using different Cordials including three featuring Belvoir’s most popular product, Elderflower Cordial.
As well as enjoying the fun of cooking together, the event gave Belvoir the opportunity to talk about the short six week elderflower season when the company puts out a call for pickers to help bring in the 60 tonnes of elderflowers (3.6 million flower heads) needed to make their drinks. It’s hoped that the bloggers will include in their write ups the story behind the elderflower, the harvest and what fun getting involved with it can be.
Lisa, winner of Celebrity MasterChef in 2010 and author of four recipe books, says: “Everyone loves a cake and I think it’s important to encourage children to bake. It’s easy for mums to be put off by the handing over of control and the potential, or should I say inevitable, mess involved but I hope that our event showed mums and kids alike that it can be fun and doesn’t have to be stressful.”
“I’ve developed three recipes using Belvoir’s delicious Elderflower Cordial, including the Madeleines, as it adds a wonderfully subtle floral fragrance and natural sweetness. For me, it’s the taste of summer all year round. I think the harvest sounds great fun and hope that I can get involved later this month.”
