Black Chalk Releases New Wine Showcasing the Passion and Artistry of the Brand

Chase Design Group captures a curious and unconventional personality through design

Hidden away in a valley bordered by 2 rivers, Black Chalk Wine in Hampshire, UK, sits on 30 acres of stunning vineyards. It’s the solid chalk soils found in this area which provide the purity for its range of small batch wines. From a passion project to small creative collective, Black Chalk has established itself as a well-respected player in the English wine scene, putting the team at the heart of the brand and using genuine curiosity to push boundaries. They introduced their first still Rosé wine to the portfolio and turned to Chase Design Group to create a label design that would effectively tell their story and distinguish it from the existing portfolio.

The new label needed to reflect a creative, crafted tone whilst celebrating Black Chalk’s authentic story and the playful characteristics of the wine.

According to Peter Hawkins, Creative Director, Chase Design Group, ”Using inspirational imagery to guide our work, we started with multiple charcoal textures, linework, and smudging by hand, to give us a custom and unconventional design of a delicately crafted dancer, elegantly expressing the brand’s personality. They were then compiled together digitally to produce the unique artwork.”

The combination of charcoal markings, dramatic black background, and generous use of white space provides a modern, artistic feel, while a textured label, gold foil and tactile varnish beautifully captures the quality craftsmanship of the wine.

“Chase Design Group’s exceptional design work has allowed us to express our brand narrative through inspiring old masters and charcoal sketching,” says Jacob Leadley, CEO & Winemaker, Black Chalk. “It gives the consumer a curious glimpse into our world and our personality, which we believe has helped us secure multiple new opportunities on and off-trade.”

Black Chalk wines are available online, in their tasting room/shop and within independent off-licences and restaurants across the UK.
