Derek&Eric Creates Joyfully Bold Brand World for The Glorious Mess

Independent branding studio Derek&Eric has unveiled a vibrant new identity for The Glorious Mess, a bold new dessert brand created with British meringue makers Flower & White.

The challenge was an unusual one. The Eton Mess is one of Britain’s most iconic desserts, but it belongs to everyone. With competing tales of its origins, from a dropped meringue at an Eton College picnic to a dessert accidentally crushed during a cricket match, the opportunity was not to invent a story, but to own the spirit behind it.

Derek&Eric embraced that joyful chaos.

The new brand is built around the accidental moment that gave Eton Mess its name, celebrating the glorious collision of broken meringue, fruit and cream through a playful visual identity full of colour, character and indulgence. Expressive typography, vibrant fruit illustrations and energetic photography all lean into the wonderfully messy nature of the dessert, creating a brand world that feels unmistakably British while bringing it up to date for modern shoppers.

Launching across an indulgent range including meringue bites and playful twists on nostalgic puddings, The Glorious Mess brings personality and standout to a category that has traditionally lacked distinctive branding.

“The challenge was to own the story behind a dessert everyone already knows and loves“ says Adam Swan, Creative Director at Derek&Eric“Rather than fighting that heritage, we embraced it. Every version of the Eton Mess story celebrates a happy accident, so we built a brand narrative that embraces those gloriously messy moments. It’s joyful, distinctive and impossible to ignore.”

The flexible identity gives Flower & White a scalable platform for future innovation while ensuring every product feels unmistakably part of the same vibrant brand world.

“The Glorious Mess is all about joyful indulgence,” says Leanne Crowther, Co Founder of Flower & White“Derek&Eric captured that spirit perfectly. They’ve created a brand full of warmth, personality and shelf impact that feels unlike anything else in the category.”

By turning one of Britain’s most iconic dessert stories into an ownable brand idea, Derek&Eric has created a distinctive identity that celebrates the heritage of the humble Eton Mess while reinventing it for a new generation.
