DesignLSM Designs Chef Stephen Li’s New Seafood Grill Restaurant – Felix

Award winning design house DesignLSM, were approached by chef Stephen Li to create the interiors and branding for his new seafood grill restaurant based in Billericay, Essex.

“The idea behind Felix was to create a welcoming and refined restaurant offering, which would showcase Stephen’s culinary expertise whilst appealing to the local community,” revealed the agency.

Housed in a former fishmongers shop, the 200sqm site is an intimate and unassuming space consisting of a main restaurant, bar and private dining area.

The exterior of the restaurant has been re-envisioned with a striking white washed shop front complimented by bold signage and gold vinyl’s, which creates a prominent presence along the main high street.

“A dramatic monolithic desk greets diners on entry into the restaurant decorated with touches of subtle lighting and a 3D cladded feature wall, bringing in layers of warmth and texture into the space. Pockets of soft green leather banquettes lead down to a rich cooper bar, which illuminates the front of the main restaurant space with its high-lit gantry and bold facade. A prominent feature is the bespoke wall covering designed with mesmerizing hues of pinks, greens and gold’s that conjure the feel of a calming ocean,” explained DesignLSM.

Contemporary walnut slatted screens divide the bespoke seating in the restaurant area allowing for a more intimate and relaxed setting. An impressive open kitchen pass overlooks the private dining area known as ‘The Chef’s table’ allowing diners the chance to experience a sense of culinary theatre.

The branding takes it’s cues from the subtle Japanese influence that is carefully curated into Stephen’s seafood menu.

“We developed a series of curved contour lines in an opulent gold and navy colour palette to convey a rich, contemporary feel. The refined logo reflects the restaurants sophisticated persona with a modern and bold typeface. Applications included signage, business stationary and a full menu suite complimented with leather embossed covers.”
